Same House Different Landlord

“The house comes from the Department of Housing and Public Works, the support comes from BABI”

The “Same House Different Landlord” (SHDL) program is an entry point into the Department of Housing (social housing).  It is for people who are already on the housing waiting list (called the Housing Registry) or who are eligible to be on this list.

You need to be classified as “High” or “Very High Needs” with the Department to be a part of this program.  You need to want to live in the Wynnum, Manly or Redlands areas.

BABI will also nominate families residing in our CAP family properties for this program, as this gives time to those requiring a Department of Housing application and a long-term housing option.


BABI nominates you for a place in the program.  The Department of Housing will try and find you a property. When they find you one, they will lease the house to BABI for six months and BABI will lease it to you.

If there are no issues with your tenancy,  BABI signs the house back to the Department of Housing and you become their tenant.

 * Please note conditions of stay differ between houses and all applicants must meet Department of Housing eligibility criteria.  At any one time BABI can only hold a maximum of 7 SHDL properties. The process for obtaining this type of housing can take weeks to months after a nomination has been progressed.
