BABI, through LINX Youth Space, delivers school holiday programs, free or low cost fun and recreational activities, in Dec-Jan, June-July and Sept-Oct every year. The program is open to young people aged 12-25 years who live, study or have strong connections to the Wynnum/Manly community and the surrounds.
Each school holidays a wide variety of free or low cost, fully supervised activities are offered. The program offers young people the opportunity to make valuable connections with their community and peers, while having a lot of fun. Parents and guardians are encouraged to book early as limited spaces are available.
The program is distributed to all local youth and community networks, local schools, youth agencies and to the general community. The program features a range of positive youth workshops and activities from arts and crafts, life skills to adventure based learning.
Activities may include:
- Movie days
- Arts and crafts
- Ten Pin Bowling
- Ice Skating
- Laser Force
- Games and Trivia sessions
- Music workshops
- Board games
- Putt Putt Golf
- Roller Skating etc
Recreational and youth activities offer leadership development to young people and opportunities for social and personal development. It has special benefits to youth at-risk as it provides a safe and fun place to address specific issues and assist in building their self-esteem and by interacting with their peers, an opportunity to develop better social skills, as well as preventing boredom and providing access to other community and specialist services based on their needs.
For this reason, the holiday program plays an important role in increasing health (physical, mental) wellbeing of at-risk youth in the local community.
